Recreational classes

  • The Geneva Park District offers a variety of cheer, poms and tumbling classes for ages 5 – 18yrs.

Angels Cheer Team 

  • The Angels Cheer Team is a year-round program that provides additional opportunities for performances – including competitions, parades and more!

Class Offerings

Tumbling – Level 1

Ages 5-18 yrs.

This class is geared toward dancers, cheerleaders, gymnasts or any type of performer who wants to focus on acrobatic tricks and tumbling skills to add to their repertoire. Level 1 will focus on basic tumbling skills such as forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, round-offs, handstands and backbends.

Tumbling – Level 2

Ages 7-18yrs.

Must have instructor approval to enroll.

This class is geared towards dancers, cheerleaders, gymnasts or any type of performer who wants to focus on acrobatic tricks and tumbling skills to add to their repertoire. Level 2 will expand upon basic tumbling skills. Participants must be able to successfully complete a cartwheel, handstand and backbend and will learn skills such as front and back walkovers and handsprings.

Poms & Dance Team Technique

Ages 5-14yrs.

This NEW! class will be a fun and active way for participants to dance with poms and learn the basics of dance team techniques, such as turns, kicks and jumps.

 

Meet Our Coaches

Susan Beehn
Sunset Dance Academy Instructor
Tumbling Coach
Susan, a dance enthusiast since her youth, has been an employee of Geneva Park District since 2017. She has a love of dance, tumbling and performing arts and has been active in these communities for as long as she can remember. Susan has been passionate about tap and ballet since her childhood and studied at Gus Giordano Jazz in Chicago and studied with Gregory Hines.

 

 

 

Makayla Bush

Makayla grew up participating in a variety of sports through her local park district, including gymnastics and dance. Over time, her passion for dance led her to assist for Activate Your Artistry’s Dance Convention. She also became a member of Waubonsie Valley’s Orchesis and the Waubonsie Valley and NIU cheerleading teams. While she enjoys all styles of dance, Her favorite part about teaching is being able to witness and support the growth students show throughout the year—both inside and outside of the classroom.

Elli Kettley has been dancing for 20 years and has loved it since the age of 3. She has learned a wide repertoire of dance styles (ballet, jazz, tap, etc.) and has studied all over the state of Illinois with a variety of different teachers. She loves teaching dance and cheer at the Geneva Park District and being able to help out anywhere she can! She has two B.A degrees in Music and Theatre and a minor in Dance from Millikin University.

Ryann began dancing at the age of four while living in England, and danced her way around the United States while growing up as part of an Air Force family. She has studied ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, tap, and pointe; and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, specializing in Dance from Michigan State University.

 

 

 

Elly Mitchell
Sunset Dance Academy Instructor
Poms Class Instructor

Elly has been dancing for almost 17 years, and is trained in a variety of styles of dance, including ballet, jazz, tap and hip hop. She is an animal mom to 3 crabs, a tortoise and her dachshund Marley. She’s so excited to be working at Sunset Dance Academy, doing what she loves most!

 

 

 

Paige VanBergen
Tumbling/Angels Cheer Coach
Paige grew up in Geneva and did tumbling and cheer during her high school career. She has been an Angels Cheer coach at the Geneva Park District for a year and a half. Each week she enjoys watching the kids improve on their stunts and tumbling skills. In addition to coaching, Paige is an elementary school teacher in Oswego.
