Auditions are held at Playhouse 38 approximately 3 months prior to show dates. Participants are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue and be prepared to read from the script.
For musicals, participants are asked to prepare a musical theater song, up to 32 bars, to be performed a capella, and a monologue or cut from a story or poem of no more than one minute in length. Additionally, participants will be taught a song, a short dance combination, and may be asked to read from the script. Once cast, participants pay a registration fee and receive a rehearsal schedule.
Rehearsals are generally held three times a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 8:30 pm and Saturdays from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. The week before the show is tech week, where all of the costumes, lighting, sound, and stage moves are rehearsed, and attendance is mandatory for everyone cast.
Shows are performed over a weekend, and typically include 3-4 showtimes – Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, and Sunday afternoon. Some shows are held over two weekends.
Tickets can be purchased online at genevaparks.org; in-person at Sunset Community Center and Stephen Persinger Recreation Center; or by calling 630-232-4542. Any remaining seats the day of the show will be sold at the Playhouse 38 box office. Concessions, including bottled water, bottled soda, juice, and candy, are sold on-site at the box office prior to the show and at show intermission.
For each production, the Director may ask for parent volunteers to help with set painting, ushering patrons to their seats, concessions, and box office.
