Young Sherlock

Take a trip back in time to when young
Sherlock Holmes was a student at
Butterworth Academy.

Two girls are kidnapped from the school,
and John Watson hopes his friend and
classmate will be able to solve his first
crime. Despite a psychic, Madame Lulu,
appearing on the scene and guaranteeing
to find the missing students, the bumbling,
inept Constable Bing begins his own investigation.

When the psychic suddenly finds the girls after
the parents have paid a large ransom, Sherlock
is suspicious. He sets a trap to snare the criminal,
launching his career as a great detective who can
solve crimes even before the police can.

Aladdin Jr.

Disney’s Aladdin Jr. is based on the 1992
Academy-Award®-winning film and the 2014
hit Broadway show about the “diamond in the
rough” street rat who learns that his true worth

The story you know and love has been given
the royal treatment! Aladdin and his three
friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down
on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic
lamp and the Genie who has the power to
grant three wishes.

Wanting to earn the respect of the princess,
Jasmine, Aladdin embarks on an adventure

Auditions are held at Playhouse 38 approximately 2-3 months prior to show dates. Participants are asked to prepare a 1-2 minute monologue and be prepared to read from the script.

For musicals, participants are asked to prepare a musical theater song, up to 32 bars, to be performed a capella, and a monologue or cut from a story or poem of no more than one minute in length. Additionally, participants will be taught a song, a short dance combination, and may be asked to read from the script.

Regular Youth Productions at Playhouse 38 are “no-cut” productions, meaning everyone who auditions will be a part of the show.  For Playhouse 38 Youth Company productions, however, not everyone who auditions will be cast.

Once cast, participants pay a registration fee and receive a rehearsal schedule. A discount is available for returning cast members and siblings.

Call 630-232-4542 to schedule your audition time.

Rehearsals vary for each show, but will generally held three times a week — on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 5:00 and 8:30 pm, and on Saturdays between 9:00 am and 1:00 pm.  The week before the show is tech week, where all of the costumes, lighting, sound, and stage moves are rehearsed, and attendance is mandatory for everyone cast.

Shows are typically performed on Friday night, Saturday afternoon and night, and Sunday afternoon. Some shows are performed over two weekends.

Tickets for youth productions are $10. They can be purchased online at; in-person at Sunset Community Center and Stephen Persinger Recreation Center; or by calling 630-232-4542. Any remaining seats the day of the show will be sold at the Playhouse 38 box office. Concessions, including bottled water, bottled soda, juice, and candy, are sold on-site at the box office prior to the show and at show intermission.
